SUSSEX, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Dozens came to Ironwood Golf Course in Sussex Friday to help the families of fallen firefighters.
Wisconsin lost two firefighters in the line of duty recently -- Cory Barr of Sun Prairie, and Mitchell Lundgaard of Appleton.
Should a tragedy happen, the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation is there to help. Maybe it's a scholarship for the kids or counseling for a spouse that's been left behind. There are plenty of resources available, and golf outings like this one make it possible.
Tricia Smith lost her father in a line-of-duty death 15 years ago, and now helps raise money for other families.
"I didn't get any help for myself for a couple years after my dad passed away," Smith said. "When I was ready, the foundation was there for me. And I've learned today there's even more services."
Smith says every firefighter has a little peace of mind knowing this foundation exists, because they know if a tragedy happens their family will be taken care of.
