WEST BEND, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Ahead of Distracted Driving Awareness Month, a new partnership is hoping to promote safe driving in our communities.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is teaming up with the West Bend community for the "Buckle Up Phone Down" campaign.
Members of the WisDOT, West Bend police, and local school leaders gathered Tuesday, March 31 to talk about the dangers of distracted driving and emphasize the dangers being posed by cellphones on the roads.
"There are far too many people that are dying on the roads every single day so one thing that is within our control is making sure that we're doing our part, which means putting our phone down, keeping your seatbelt on, and paying attention to the job at hand, and that's driving safely," said Kristina Boardman, secretary of the WisDOT.
