MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- It was a paws-itively perfect Saturday morning at Deer District as thousands packed the grounds for the fifth annual Doggy Day.

The event raises money for Winston's Wishes, a nonprofit organization "that focuses on helping dogs from MADACC who may not be doing well in the shelter environment, senior pups or dogs who may need a little extra care."

For attendee Jineen McLemore, the fundraiser serves as a community-oriented opportunity to help our four-legged friends in need.

"It's amazing and then the amount of money they can raise helps other animals in need so it's a great cause too," McLemore said, while her MADACC rescue pup laid by her feet.

Another attendee, Ronnie Stephenson, who brought along her 10-year-old corgi named Sherlock, said she tries to come each year.

"This is a wonderful event that they put on, and I love seeing that it gets bigger and bigger every year," Stephenson said. "You can always do more for the local animals in the community."

And for attendee Kimberly Sweeney who brought her two-year-old rescue named Bear, it's a chance to get out and meet other like-minded individuals.

"[Bear] is a gentle giant who likes to roam around and knock things off the table with his tail!" Sweeney said. "We love it, great for the dogs and great to get them out and socialize and meet other dogs and other people."

Over the years, Doggy Day has raised thousands of dollars.
