MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A local park is changing their name to now honor a civil rights activist that grew up in Milwaukee.
The former 4th and Mineral Park in Walker's Point, 937 S. 4th Street, will now be known as Clementina Castro Park.
Clementina Castro was an advocate for the city's Hispanic community in the 60s and 70s.
Castro's son, Tomas, was at the renaming ceremony Monday, March 23, and could not be more excited for the change.
"The smiles that came across our faces, to know that we are going to continue to have our children come here and grow up again, they are happy," said Tomas Castro.
Clementina was also one of the founding members of La Causa, a nonprofit still serving Milwaukee's Hispanic community today.
This is the first time in Milwaukee a park has been renamed to honor a Latina woman.
