23-foot replica of the moon coming to Milwaukee's Third Ward this summer
Historic Third Ward Association MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Third Ward Moon Festival, a three-day, open air cultural experience featuring a giant illuminated moon, returns to Milwaukee's Historic Third Ward.
The event, in celebration of the Historic Third Ward Association's 50th anniversary, is set for Aug. 7-9.
According to a news release, the festival is anchored by Museum of the Moon, an installation by UK artist Luke Jerram. A 23-foot illuminated sculpture, creating high-resolution NASA imagery and paired with a surrounding sound experience, brings a detailed and immersive representation of the moon into the heart of the neighborhood.
Jerram's art piece has captivated more than 30 million people worldwide. It's the second time the installation has come to Catalano Square, located at 147 N Broadway.
“The Third Ward Moon Festival is about creating a sense of wonder, bringing people together under a shared experience that feels both intimate and expansive in the heart of the neighborhood,”
-Jim Plaisted, Executive Director of the Historic Third Ward Association.
Spanning Catalano Square and extending onto Menomonee Street and Broadway, the Third Ward Moon Festival will create a walkable, immersive environment featuring live music, dance, art, fashion, wellness experiences, and family-friendly activities — all designed to reflect the creativity and character of the Historic Third Ward.
The festival is free and open to the public.
A full entertainment lineup and additional programming details will be announced in the coming weeks.
