KENOSHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The stay at home order has brought confusion to some Wisconsin car washes.
Some have been forced to close, while others remain open.
Mike Seitz is the owner of Car Spa Express in Kenosha.
He says a Kenosha Police Department detective showed up April 3 and said they had to close because they are a non-essential business.
This was frustrating to Mike and other car washes since gas station car washes continued to operate.
Mike had to lay off all of his employees.
"We're no different than say a Burger King drive-thru, customers stay in their cars," Seitz said. "We have very minimal contact."
The Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation says starting Friday, under the stay at home order extension, car washes will be allowed to operate, but they have to be contactless.
Car Spa Express says they will be reopening on Friday.
