MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) – A new space for entrepreneurs is opening its doors on Tuesday, September 15.

Upstart Kitchen, located in Milwaukee’s Sherman Park neighborhood, is for entrepreneurs who want to grow or start their food business.

At Upstart Kitchen, people get access to a commercial kitchen and other services like training and mentoring.

The kitchen also has an emergency meals program and has helped distribute more than 25,000 meals since the pandemic began. At the opening event on Tuesday, it was announced Ascension Wisconsin will donate $50,000 to provide 6,000 meals to the community each month.

"We believe that if you give a man a fish, he eats for a day. If you teach him how to fish, he can eat for a lifetime, but if you empower him or her to own and operate their own businesses, they can not only eat for a lifetime, but they can feed an entire village," Prism EDC President Bishop Walter Harvey said.

Upstart Kitchen can accommodate 40 entrepreneurs a day.
