RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A jury trial began Monday, for a Milwaukee father accused of shooting and killing his 4-year-old son. 

Police say 35-year-old Ralph Taylor shot the boy in July of 2025. Witnesses said Taylor had been drinking beforehand.

He's been charged with first degree intentional homicide and possession of a firearm as a felon.

Court records show a jury was seated Monday, March 9, and opening statements began. 

The boy's mother, Casandra Taylor, is charged with neglecting a child and straw purchasing of a firearm. Records show she pleaded not guilty and will appear in court Tuesday, March 10.
