FRANKLIN, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Earlier today, Franklin rescue crews responded to a report of a person missing in the Root River near W. Drexel Ave.
First responders reported to the area and found the waters extremely high due to the significant rainfall and flooding from the last 24 hours. The Root River had water coming over its banks and moving across W. Drexel with a strong current. The road had barriers to deter access to the area due to the dangerous conditions.
First responders began searching for the missing, who was described by witnesses as a male teenager, and was able to make voice contact with him. He was holding onto a tree branch and standing on a submerged log in the moving water about 100 yards downstream from where he entered.
Responders stayed in contact with him and deployed an inflatable Zodiac rescue boat. They were able to safely remove him from the flood waters and bring him to shore.
There were no other individuals with him in the water and no injuries were reported.
The Franklin Fire Department wants to remind the public the dangers of flood waters and to never walk or drive through flooded roadways. "Moving water as shallow as 6 inches can knock an adult off their feet and two feet of water can sweep away most vehicles," stated the press release.
