NOW: Strong storms Tuesday night now switching to snow for Wednesday
NEXT:

The strong to severe storms on Tuesday evening and night stayed in our southern counties, as we forecasted. Storms rapidly intensified along the WI/IL border in the evening hours with a few severe thunderstorm warnings in those southern counties. A few stronger storms reached into the metro area. Two severe hail reports came in for parts of Racine and Kenosha Counties for hail an inch in diameter.

We also saw heavy rain, especially in those southern counties, where over an inch to an inch and a half of rain was reported. Parts of the Milwaukee metro saw a soaking rain around half inch but northern counties didn't see as much with a tenth to a quarter of an inch there.

We still have some mist and drizzle along with low clouds for Wednesday morning. There is the possibility for some wintry mix and freezing drizzle in our northern and western counties. A Winter Weather Advisory is in place for Fond du Lac and Sheboygan Counties for a glaze of ice with any mix or freezing drizzle.

By the midday hours Wednesday all of the rain and mix will have switched over to snow. Some moderate snow will be possible around midday through the afternoon hours leading to some accumulation. The chance for snow will linger through the early evening hours before drying out Wednesday night and most of Thursday.

Some slushy accumulating snow will be possible. We could see up to an inch of snow with highest totals in northern counties. If we do see an inch or more that could result in some slush on the roads, otherwise most of this snow will accumulate on grassy surfaces or patio furniture and cars. Southern counties likely see less snow with only a dusting or a few tenths of an inch.

This isn't our only chance for mix or snow for the rest of the week. Another round of mix looks possible Thursday evening into Friday morning with another chance for an inch or less of slushy snow. Then all eyes are on the track for a weekend storm system. Significant snow or a mix are all possible depending on the storm track. Don't believe any snow totals you see until Friday at the earliest.
