Sen. Baldwin reintroduces bill restricting the use of dairy terms on plant-based products

WISCONSIN (CBS 58) -- Wisconsin Senator Tammy Baldwin is fighting plant-based food producers who use dairy terms.

The Dairy Pride bill she co-sponsors would restrict names like "almond milk" and "vegan cheese."

"Plant-based alternative milks are superior in so far as they contain zero cholesterol," said Vance Lehmkuhl of the American Vegan Society.

"We want to put a stop to this mislabeling of these fake dairy products," Sen. Baldwin said.

Baldwin says dairy products are held to a higher standard than the other items.

This is the second time in Congress for the Dairy Pride Act. Its future is uncertain.
