MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee Community Land Trust is celebrating the completion of five new homes.
The project is part of the city of Milwaukee's Homes MKE initiative.
The homes, once vacant, are now fully restored with modern upgrades and appliances. Through this initiative, the homes have also been made permanently affordable.
"We are extremely excited, nervous, all of the feelings that come with becoming a new homeowner," said Jeannette Torres. "I just feel excited to be in this community because I work here and I can build community with my neighbors and get to know more people here on the south side and get to help them with resources that I might be able to provide for them."
For the Milwaukee Community Land Trust, this project marks a huge step forward in revitalizing neighborhoods and expanding access to home ownership for local families.
