MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee Police Department reported to a missing person in Lake Michigan at South Shore Park around 5:24 a.m. this morning.
Law enforcement believes that a 24-year-old man visited the beach to swim with friends after an evening out and alcohol was consumed. It was reported that the man couldn't swim or wasn't able to very well. The group spent some time in the water and when they returned to shore, the 24-year-old was absent.
The group told first responders that he was still in the water. They believed he was playing a prank, but after some time they no longer saw him and called 911.
Multiple law enforcement agencies participated in the search, but ultimately, he was discovered deceased.
An investigation is ongoing.
The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office, in a press release, extends its condolences to the man's family and friends.
