Registration Open for MPD Citizen Academy

The Milwaukee Police Department will be hosting two sessions of the Citizen Academy this summer, according to a post on the Department's Facebook Page. The Citizen Academy is an 8-week program designed to provide citizens with a working knowledge of the Milwaukee Police Department.

The instruction will include classroom academics and practical applications in law, police procedure, defense and arrest tactics, firearms training, and state of art technology used to combat crime. Tours of various police facilities and demonstrations of equipment will also be conducted.

The Citizen Academy consists of a series of classes held once a week for three hours. Applicants must be able to attend all eight weeks.

Session One will begin on June 23, and Session Two will begin on August 18. Each class will take place at the Milwaukee Police and Fire Academy.

You must be a resident of the City of Milwaukee, be at least 21-years-old, have not been convicted of a felony or have any current criminal charges pending. All applicants will be subject to a background check.

Residents of the City of Milwaukee may call the Milwaukee Police Office of Community Outreach and Education at 414-935-7905 for more information and to apply.

The deadline to apply is May 23.
