MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Two children were rescued from a burning home in Milwaukee's Harambee neighborhood Friday, Jan. 2.
Crews were called to the house near Buffum and Townsend around 8:30 a.m. When they got there, they saw smoke coming from the second floor and a child hanging out of a window on the third floor.
Battalion Chief Christopher Brown tells us there were two kids in the building.
"Our initial engine company was able to lay a line to try to get water on that fire while simultaneously getting ladders up to that front porch," Battalion Chief Brown said. "And the support crews that all came in after them support those actions, and thankfully they were able to get both kids out of the building."
The children were taken to an area hospital for evaluation. The other people in the building got out safely as well.
Battalion Chief Brown says nine extra companies were called to the scene because of the trapped children and the cold weather.
