MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Another new hearing date was set Wednesday for former Milwaukee police officer Michael Mattioli.
He's charged for the death of Joel Acevedo more than three years ago.
This is a case that's been delayed time and time again. Joel Acevedo allegedly died at the hands of an off-duty police officer in 2020, and the victim's father says he's beyond frustrated and disappointed with the court system.
"I don't understand what's going on with the court system here, and the time it has been taking...continue to fight for justice and don't forget my son, you know. He was a human being, he was a part of this community and he cared for the community where he lived," said Jose Acevedo.
Michael Mattioli was off duty on April 19, 2020, when investigators say he put Acevedo in a chokehold at his home while at a party. Acevedo died from his injuries.
Mattioli has pleaded not guilty. His trial was originally set to begin in November 2022, but was pushed until May of this year. It continues to be postponed.
The medical examiner says they need more time to complete the report.
The judge postponed Wednesday's final pre-trial selection hearing to August. The trial is expected to begin in November.
CBS 58 also learned a new courtroom will be assigned to this case with another judge.
