'Oh my god, it is freezing': Milwaukee bus riders face sub-zero temperatures
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- For a lot of people, the current cold temperatures mean bundling up and bearing it.
“Oh my god, it is freezing,” said Rodney Daniels, a Milwaukee resident.
"Bitter cold,” said Margarita Yniguez, a Milwaukee resident.
Those are the words people braving the cold in Milwaukee use to describe Friday's, Jan. 23, sub-zero temperatures.
“I got here outside and immediately tried to find a warm shelter,” said Yniguez.
While many people who could opted to stay home and avoid the cold, others had a wait at the bus stop they say was unlike any other.
“I didn’t want to come out, but I had to because of my eye doctor, so I had to go see him," said Yniguez. "I wasn’t able to schedule transportation, so this is my last choice.”
From doctors appointments, to work and other daily obligations, bus goers in Milwaukee endured wind chills that reached negative 42 degrees on Friday.
“This would be one of the coldest days,” said Daniels.
People say while they did their best to bundle up with their winter gear, their extra layers could only do so much.
“I got my thermal underwear on," said Daniels. "I got my snowsuit on and when I was walking towards the wind, the wind seemed like it still was cutting through.”
Their advice for those venturing out for the frigid weekend to come is to stay home if you can.
"I really think everybody, if you can, please stay in the house," said Daniels. "This is kind of dangerous because I noticed my asthma got worse when it’s cold. The air gets really thin and I advise you to stay in the house if you have some type of breathing problem.”
