Man rescued from grain silo in Kenosha

KENOSHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Authorities rescued a 65-year-old man who became stuck in a silo filled with soybeans Friday, Oct. 3.

The Kenosha Fire Department, along with several other agencies, were called to 169th Avenue, near 38th Street, to assist the Town of Paris Fire and Rescue with the rescue.

Officials say the victim used his cellphone to call a family member who contacted 911 for help.

Firefighters, using specialized rappelling recovery equipment, accessed the 20-foot-tall silo, which was approximately one-third full of soybeans, to execute the rescue.

An emergency wall had to be constructed around the man who was stuck up to his neck and shoulders. The soybeans were then carefully vacuumed out before a harness could be placed on him. He was then winched out through the top of the silo.

He was transported to a local hospital with what appeared to be minor injuries and is doing well.
