GLENDALE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Nicolet Union High School’s robotics team, Nicolet FEAR, held its annual robot reveal event this week. The team, which stands for Future Engineers of American Robots, gives students an opportunity to develop engineering skills through hands-on projects.
Students were given six weeks to design and build a robot capable of picking up different objects and completing assigned tasks. The team is part of the FIRST Robotics Competition and will compete against other teams.
"Every year we’re tasked with six weeks to build a robot that can accomplish different tasks," said Nicolet student Nathan Boyer. "For example, this year it has to pick up algae and coral, which are different game pieces. One of them, the coral, is a tube of PVC pipe, and the algae is a 16-inch kickball."
Nicolet FEAR will advance to regional competitions, where teams will test their robots in a series of challenges.
