MPD Achieves Accreditation Status

The Wisconsin Law Enforcement Accreditation Group (WILEAG) is very proud to announce that the Governing Board has approved the accreditation status of the Milwaukee Police Department.

From September 28 to October 2 a team of assessors from the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Accreditation Group examined every aspect of the Milwaukee Police Department based upon a series of highly recognized standards and found the agency to be in compliance with 226 applicable standards. This was a process the MPD began over two years ago and is quite an achievement.

Greg Peterson, President of the Governing Board for WILEAG, stated, “The Milwaukee Police Department is the largest law enforcement agency in Wisconsin to achieve accreditation and this was a great accomplishment by MPD and WILEAG.” There are over 400 law enforcement agencies in Wisconsin, but less than 30 have achieved accreditation status.

The assessment team noted a positive relationship between the police and the community. This is based upon Chief Flynn, command staff, and all levels of the agency being visible in the community, along with the many outreach programs that are taking place on a daily basis to improve relations. All these factors demonstrate that the department is committed to delivering high-quality police services to the citizens of Milwaukee.

Finally, throughout the assessment, the staff of the Milwaukee Police Department extended excellent cooperation to the assessor team in a manner consistent with the principles that guide the community and professional relationships.
