The Eiffel Tower is placed in the heart of the square and dozens of booths and vendors are set up bringing a taste of France to downtown Milwaukee.
Thousands of people made their way through the festival Thursday enjoying live music, a variety of vendors and plenty of good eats, including the fan favorite beignets.
Those in attendance say it’s their favorite festival in the city, and many of them geared up to participate in the Storm the Bastille 5k Run. Runner, Berangere Brunier, who is from France and now lives in Milwaukee and says this run has become a tradition for her.
“I think just seeing everyone, the run is really fun,” said Brunier. It’s my favorite run in Milwaukee because it’s at night, people hand you drinks while you are running so it makes it fun. Everyone wears lots of crazy costumes.”
People came from far and wide to attend the event, including Madame Gigi’s Outrageous French Cancan Dancers, who are performing for their 16th year this weekend. The group came from Dayton Ohio to share their art.
“We love Milwaukee, it’s always so friendly and so welcoming and this is the largest Bastille Day festival in the country, we wouldn’t miss it for anything,” said Madame Gigi, the groups leader.
A fan favorite booth is the Frenchie Kisses booth, that features French Bulldogs wearing berets providing some puppy love for a good cause. All the funds go towards the French Bulldogs Network.
The festival runs Thursday July 17th through July 20th.
