Driver who killed couple in wrong-way crash sentenced to prison
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A program to increase safety in Milwaukee neighborhoods is expanding.
In July, city leaders announced the relaunch of the Alert Neighbor Program, an initiative that empowers residents to help keep their neighborhoods safe by forming a neighborhood block club.
Monday night, grant recipients were announced. The block clubs selected will receive Ring doorbell cameras, flood lights and special signage, all to deter crime in their neighborhood.
"Through the assistance of Office of Violence Prevention and us all working together, we will be able to serve every single neighborhood group that applied," said Alderwoman Milele Coggs.
Twenty neighborhood block clubs were awarded.
They will meet with the Milwaukee Police Department to walk around the neighborhood and develop a safety plan while installing the new safety equipment.
