Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra announces 2024-25 Classics Season
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Music Director Ken-David Masur, has announced the lineup for its 2024-25 Classics Season taking place at the Bradley Symphony Center.
The season, themed around the fusion of music with language, poetry, lyrics and stories, expands to 20 weekends, kicking off on Sept. 27 with "Scheherazade: Prophets and Heroines," featuring conductor Ken-David Masur and pianist Simon Trpčeski. It tells tales of adventure and romance through Rimsky-Korsakov’s "Scheherazade" and other works.
October brings "Bruckner’s Fourth Symphony: Wanderers Awaken" and "Gemma New Conducts Sibelius," with performances that traverse the musical landscapes of Bruckner, Mahler and Sibelius.
"Poulenc’s Gloria," under Jean-Marie Zeitouni, finishes off October with a vocal and choral focus.
In November, the season continues with "Reinhardt Conducts Beethoven" and "Bach’s Christmas Oratorio," the latter welcoming the holiday season with Masur, the MSO and the Milwaukee Symphony Chorus.
The new year begins with Jinwoo Lee’s debut as a concerto soloist in "Tchaikovsky’s Romeo & Juliet: ‘Within Her Arms’ - Expressions of Love," followed by "Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons" in February.
"American Voices" and "Ingrid Fliter plays Mozart" present a mix of American classics and Mozart, leading into March’s “Mendelssohn’s Third Symphony” and the Bach Festival, a tribute to the composer’s diverse works.
April features "Copland’s Appalachian Spring" and “Brahms Requiem: Your heart shall rejoice."
The season concludes with "Pines of Rome" and "Bernstein & Bartók" in May.
The grand finale, "Season Finale: Great Moments in Grand Opera," features favorite operatic moments under Masur’s baton.
