MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee Film is marking Black History Month with a series of special film showings, curated by its Black Lens program. Celebrating its sixth year, the event features a range of films that aim to include themes and narratives relevant to the Black experience.

Black Lens Programmer Marquise Mays and Community Programming Coordinator Deiva Motley joined us on Monday, Jan. 22 to share insights into the selections.

The program kicks off on Thursday, Feb. 1 with "Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé." This will be followed by "The 50" on Feb. 3, and "Boomerang," a 1992 Eddie Murphy romantic comedy, on Feb. 8, which includes a post-screening discussion.

The Black Lens Shorts Program, "Treasured Heirlooms," is scheduled for Feb. 10. "Nanny," accompanied by a retrospective talk, will show on Feb. 15. "Invisible Beauty," a documentary on racial diversity in the fashion industry, is set for Feb. 17. "Girl," a British feature, will be shown on Feb. 20, followed by "Know Your Place" on Feb. 24.

The series concludes with "Gaining Ground: The Fight for Black Land" on Feb. 29.
