Michigan man sentenced to federal prison for traveling to Wisconsin to have sex with minor
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A 42-year-old Michigan man was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for traveling to Wisconsin to have sex with a 15-year-old.
U.S. Attorney Richard G. Frohling of the Eastern District of Wisconsin announced Jan. 18, Scott Sundberg was sentenced to 120 months in federal prison.
According to court filings, Sundberg began corresponding in August 2021 via a popular messaging platform with a 41-year-old woman in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, who was the mother of a 15-year-old daughter. During these conversations, Sundberg sent videos containing child pornography and stated his desire to have sexual intercourse with the 15-year-old child.
On Aug. 13, 2021, Sundberg travelled from Ishpeming, Michigan, to Oshkosh, Wisconsin, to meet the woman and her child at a local motel.
Sundberg, a retired firefighter, brought a fire helmet for the child to wear during the proposed sexual activity. The “woman” was, in fact, an undercover law enforcement officer and Sundberg was arrested upon his arrival at the meeting point.
At sentencing, Senior District Judge Griesbach noted the very serious nature of the charge and the need for just punishment. Following his release from prison, Sundberg will spend 6 years on supervised release. He will also be required to register as a sexual offender.
