Louisiana teacher arrested for distributing steroids to student

Donaldsonville, LA (WVLA) -- A Donaldsonville High School teacher and coach was arrested on Tuesday, April 1 on several steroid charges.

Curtis Tsuruda, 56, of LaPlace, had been a physical education teacher and strength and conditioning couach at DHS since August 2013.

Narcotics detectives began investigating Tsuruda on March 28, after receiving information about a coach who had given steroids to a 16-year-old student athlete.

Investigators learned that Tsuruda led the student to believe that the steroid pills were actually amino acid and protein pills that would boost his athletic performance.

Tsuruda eventually confessed to detectives that he knowingly gave the student Methandienone steroids and told the student that they were amino acid protein pills.

School Board Policy does not allow faculty or staff to give any type of medication to students. Tsuruda was immediately placed on administrative leave, with further disciplinary action pending.

An analysis by the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab determined that the pills were Methandienone steroid pills, which is classified as a schedule III controlled dangerous substance.

Authorities later searched Tsuruda's home, where they found additional steroids.

Tsurada was arrested on April 1, on charges of distribution of schedule III CDS, distribution to a student, violation of CDS law school zone, and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile.
