Lightning apparently starts fire at Menomonee Falls home, firefighters hurt

MENOMONEE FALLS -- It was a scary and surprising night for a family on this quiet Menomonee Falls street.  It happened on Hummingbird Way.

Fire started in this home around 1:30 this morning.

Neighbors tell us they heard a loud crack of thunder then saw then moments later saw the fire.

Three Menomonee Falls firefighters were injured when parts of the ceiling fell on them as they fought the fire.  They were checked out a local hospital and released.

The family wasn't home at the time of the fire.   Firefighters did rescue two cats from the house.

The neighbor across the street heard the loud noise and woke up. He went to check on his in laws when he saw the flames from his front door.

\"I looked through this main window right across the street and I see the fire,\" Raj Vadheraju said.  \"Oh my gosh I can't believe it you know. The first time in my life I see the fire and it's the first time I've called 911. I called 911 immediately.\"

He said he and his neighbor ran across the street to knock on the door but luckily no one was home.

The Menomonee falls fire department tells me it's too early for total damage assessments at this time.
