MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Shattered glass, furniture pieces, broken boards and even a tire are what remain inside of a hair salon and nail salon that shared a building near 11th and Mitchell on Milwaukee's south side.

Milwaukee police said a 30-year-old was speeding when they lost control of their car and crashed into the building just after 2:30 a.m. on July 1.

The driver had possible injuries but was not taken to a hospital for treatment, and they were cited for the incident.

Crews spent hours in the sun Wednesday afternoon trying to clean up the area.

"My heart dropped, it's really sad for a lot of different reasons," said Mabel Miller, who has the space next door. "It's just this mentality of let's go fast, go fast, go fast, all the time and I feel like that's more of the problem... I want to know like what is beneath it, like what is actually going on inside the brain that’s making us want to go fast?”

Nancy Bush, the executive director for the Historic Mitchell Street Business Improvement District #4, said she "couldn't believe" what she saw.

"It was all because of reckless, speeding driving," Bush said. "We now have a speed hump that was put in last summer just here into the next block to slow traffic, all those things are great but it's not enough."

Now the salon owners are waiting to hear from city inspectors and insurance companies for what comes next.
