One day of showers, storms to dodge this weekend
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Local leaders, family and friends gathered to say goodbye to a hometown trailblazer today, July 27.
Dr. Jarrel W. Jones passed away in June.
He was born in Milwaukee in 1939 and went on to found the Milwaukee Courier newspaper at the age of 25.
In 1972, his company purchased the WNOV radio station, making Jones the first black man in United States history to own both a newspaper and radio station.
Today's memorial service was held at Holy Redeemer Institutional Church of God and Christ.
Jones was 85 years old.
