WHITEFISH BAY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- It's the end of an era for Fitzgerald Pharmacy in Whitefish Bay.
The pharmacy and store is closing its doors for a final time Monday evening after being in business for 65 years.
Throughout the day on Monday, many loyal customers stopped in to say goodbye and make a final purchase.
"It's a fixture in the community, everybody knows Fitzgerald's, everybody comes here for all sorts of things," Whitefish Bay resident John Powers said.
The pharmacy was started in 1954 by Dan Fitzgerald. The owner said changes in the pharmacy and healthcare industry are contributing to the closure and said it is not financially feasible to keep the store running. He said Monday was bittersweet.
"A ton of emotion that's flowing into the store," owner Mike Pistiner said. "People are sad, but they're very appreciative for what we had."
The store will permanently close at 8 p.m.
