The lake breeze is strong these days. Thursday was another day with a big contrast between lakeside and inland counties. Milwaukee failed to reach 60 degrees with a stiff NE wind most of the day. Waukesha made it to 70 and Madison almost hit 80.
The lake breeze will continue through the weekend but small shifts will have drastic impact on temperatures. The wind moves to the SE on Friday pushing temps lakeside into the low 70s but still warmer and close to 80 inland. Saturday that breezy NE wind returns and makes things chilly again with highs in the low 60s lakeside and 70s inland and maybe even another 80 in Madison. Temps normalize for the beginning of next week but we still have a lake breeze with highs around 70 in Milwaukee and mid to upper 70s inland.
The sunshine from Thursday will continue for the most part most of the weekend with a few passing clouds here and there.
May has been incredibly dry and with just a few days left in the month, that doesn't really change. Going into the last three days of the month we have only picked up 0.36" of rain so far which is on track to be the driest May on record. For the year, we are still well above average on precipitation thanks to the wettest April on record. But we have dropped in the precipitation rankings. About a month ago at the end of April we were the seventh wettest start to a year on record and now we have dropped to 30th.
No rain is in the forecast for Friday or Saturday. We may see a few sprinkles Sunday evening going into Monday morning. That chance looks best in our western counties, but even if anyone sees rain it will not amount to more than a few hundredths.
