Ranked teams make statements, upsets shake up Week 4 across Wisconsin
WISCONSIN (CBS 58) — Week 4 of the Wisconsin high school football season delivered nail-biters, upsets, convincing wins and dominant performances across the state.
With four weeks now in the books, some teams are beginning to separate themselves from the pack while others are fighting to stay in the postseason picture.
Greater Milwaukee Area
One of the most anticipated games of the week featured Division 3 No. 1 Catholic Memorial traveling to face Division 1 No. 3 Muskego.
The Warriors controlled the matchup and led 28-0 when play was stopped with about six minutes remaining after a Catholic Memorial player was injured, according to reports. The game was called, giving Muskego the 28-0 victory.
CBS 58 will provide additional information if it becomes available.
Division 1 No. 1 Arrowhead celebrated senior night by hosting Brookfield East, which entered the game coming off a win over Mukwonago.
The Warhawks showed why they remain the top-ranked team in Division 1, defeating the Spartans 45-21. Arrowhead improved to 4-0, while Brookfield East fell to 2-2.
Division 1 No. 4 Hamilton also remained perfect after traveling to Kettle Moraine. The Chargers built a 28-7 halftime lead and never looked back, cruising to a 49-14 victory.
Hamilton improved to 4-0, while Kettle Moraine fell to 0-4.
No. 2-ranked Division 2 Pewaukee traveled to Hart Park and took care of business against Wauwatosa East, winning 27-8. The Pirates improved to 4-0, while the Red Raiders suffered their first loss and fell to 3-1.
Division 3 No. 4 Port Washington also stayed unbeaten, jumping out to a 22-0 halftime lead against Kewaskum before finishing off a 29-7 victory.
The Pirates improved to 4-0, while Kewaskum dropped to 1-3.
Division 1 No. 8 Oconomowoc made another statement against Brookfield Central, defeating the Lancers 29-13.
The Raccoons improved to 3-1, while Brookfield Central fell to 2-2. Both of the Lancers' losses have come against ranked opponents.
In another matchup between ranked teams, Division 3 No. 8 Whitefish Bay edged Division 2 No. 6 Menomonee Falls 22-18.
Both teams moved to 3-1 on the season.
Division 2 No. 10 Grafton also earned a key victory, defeating Nicolet 49-28.
In a battle of undefeated teams, Burlington traveled to Division 1 No. 4 Union Grove, but the Broncos proved too much for the Demons, winning 49-19.
Union Grove improved to 4-0, while Burlington suffered its first loss and fell to 3-1.
Racine Case continued its recent offensive surge, shutting out Kenosha Tremper 41-0. The Eagles have now outscored their past two opponents 86-0.
Racine Case improved to 3-1, while Tremper fell to 1-3.
Franklin appears to be finding its footing after an 0-2 start. The Sabers earned their second straight victory with a dominant 56-17 win over Marquette University High School.
Both teams moved to 2-2.
Greendale has also turned things around under first-year head coach Jakup Sinani.
After opening the season 0-2 with losses to Pewaukee and Waukesha West, the Panthers defeated West Allis Hale in Week 3 and followed it with a 41-6 victory over Whitnall.
Greendale improved to 2-2, while Whitnall fell to 0-4.
Hartford and Wisconsin Lutheran delivered one of the closest games of the night, with the Vikings holding on for a 44-43 victory.
Wisconsin Lutheran improved to 2-2, while Hartford fell to 0-4.
West Allis Hale traveled across town for a rivalry matchup against West Allis Central and earned its first victory of the season, defeating the Bulldogs 41-22.
The Huskies improved to 1-3, while West Allis Central fell to 2-2.
Division 3 No. 10 Waterford put together a strong defensive performance against Wilmot Union, shutting out the Panthers 30-0.
Waterford improved to 3-1, while Wilmot Union fell to 2-2.
Kenosha Indian Trail edged Oak Creek 29-22 in another close matchup. The Hawks improved to 3-1, while the Knights dropped to 1-3.
New Berlin Eisenhower improved to 3-1 with a 35-20 victory over Waukesha North. The Northstars fell to 1-3.
Waukesha South also picked up a win, defeating Greenfield 35-21.
Division 1 No. 6 Waunakee had little trouble with Watertown, rolling to a 57-7 victory.
The Warriors improved to 3-1, with their lone loss coming against Muskego in Week 1.
Elsewhere Around the State
Division 1 No. 2 Bay Port remained perfect with a 58-7 road victory over Green Bay Southwest.
The Pirates improved to 4-0, while the Fighting Trojans fell to 2-2.
Division 1 No. 5 West De Pere also stayed unbeaten, shutting out Ashwaubenon 38-0. The Phantoms improved to 4-0, while the Jaguars suffered their first loss and fell to 3-1.
No. 10 De Pere protected its home field with a 40-14 victory over Appleton West. Both teams moved to 3-1.
Division 2 No. 1 Notre Dame Academy, led by Wisconsin commit Kingston Allen, cruised past Sheboygan South 52-0.
The Tritons improved to 4-0, while the Redwings fell to 0-4.
Division 2 No. 9 Kaukauna handed Neenah another loss in what has been a difficult early-season schedule for the Rockets.
Kaukauna won 34-21 to improve to 3-1. Neenah, which has also faced Division 2 No. 1 Notre Dame Academy and Division 1 No. 1 Arrowhead, fell to 1-3.
Division 2 No. 2 Monona Grove avoided an upset with a convincing 42-7 victory over Oregon.
In Division 4, top-ranked Freedom hosted No. 10 Denmark and quickly took control.
The Irish built a 35-0 halftime lead and cruised to a 49-7 victory. Freedom improved to 4-0, while Denmark suffered its first loss and fell to 3-1.
Division 4 No. 6 Evansville traveled to face Division 3 No. 9 Portage in a matchup of undefeated teams on First Responders Night.
The Blue Devils came away with the road victory, improving to 4-0 and handing Portage its first loss of the season.
Division 5 No. 1 Darlington remained unbeaten with a 41-10 victory over No. 7 New Glarus.
Division 5 No. 4 Mayville dominated North Fond du Lac 56-7. The Cardinals improved to 3-1, with their only loss coming against Lake Country Lutheran, while North Fond du Lac fell to 0-4.
Division 5 No. 3 Amherst also remained perfect after putting up 50 points against Division 6 No. 9 Marathon.
The Falcons improved to 4-0, while Marathon fell to 3-1.
Looking Ahead to Week 5
Week 5 begins Thursday with several notable matchups outside the Milwaukee area.
West De Pere travels to Appleton West, De Pere takes on Bay Port and Notre Dame Academy visits Green Bay East.
Friday's schedule features plenty of games to watch across southeastern Wisconsin.
Kettle Moraine travels to Arrowhead, Hamilton faces Brookfield Central, Homestead visits Cedarburg, Franklin travels to Mukwonago and Oconomowoc heads to Muskego.
Catholic Memorial will host Marquette, while Kaukauna travels to face Appleton North.
Four weeks are in the books, and the contenders are beginning to emerge. But as the first month of the season has already shown, an upset can happen on any given night.
