Driver suffers life-threatening injuries after van flips following crash with SUV

BEAVER DAM, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Friday morning, September 29, around 11:17 a.m. the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office responded to a car crash on U.S. Highway 151 near Hemlock Road in Beaver Dam.

The initial investigation shows that a Dodge Grand Caravan was driving south on the gravel shoulder of Highway 151 approaching the intersection with Hemlock Road. A Chevrolet Equinox SUV was also driving south on 151 on the inside lane of travel, approaching the intersection.

The Dodge van abruptly turned east and traveled across the southbound lanes of 151 to initiate a turn east on Hemlock. The van cut off the Chevy SUV which hit the van on the driver's side causing the Dodge to enter the median of 151 where it flipped a full rotation and landed upright.

The driver of the Dodge van was ejected and sustained serious, life-threatening injuries. The three occupants of the SUV, a woman and two children, sustained non-life threatening injuries.

The two children were taken by ambulance to American Family Children’s Hospital in Madison. The driver of the van was flown from the scene by Flight For Life to Theda Clark Hospital in Neenah.
