MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- "Who in the Hell is Regina Jones?" debuts Monday, Feb. 16 at 7 p.m. on Start TV, Channel 58.5 over-the-air in Milwaukee.
The documentary follows Regina Jones, who became a trailblazing publisher and gave Black artists a platform long before mainstream media would. Jones joined us Monday, Feb. 16 to talk about her life, her work and the documentary.
She founded Soul, a publication that covered artists including Aretha Franklin, James Brown and Stevie Wonder. She addressed how she built real relationships with these artists that helped her tell their stories.
Jones also discussed experiencing the Watts Rebellion, the riots that erupted in Los Angeles in August 1965 after a traffic stop and arrest of a young Black man sparked outrage over police brutality, and how that time shaped who she became.
