Dad Accused of Leaving Sons in Freezing Car to Watch Football
WASHINGTON COUNTY, Pa. (CBS NEWS) --A western Pennsylvania man is accused of leaving his three young sons inside a freezing car while he watched football at a friend's home, reports CBS Pittsburgh. One of the children, 4, was reportedly later found wandering alone barefoot in 30-degree temperatures.
Police say James Grusofski, 33, of Washington County, left the three boys, 7, 4 and nine months, in his car on Saturday night while watching a game. After he drove home, he realized the four-year-old child was no longer in the car, the station reports.
A witness heard the child yelling around 9:45 p.m. and called police, reports the Observer-Reporter. Police say the boy was wandering alone and wasn't wearing a coat, socks or shoes. Police couldn't find his parents, so they took him to a police station and contacted a county child services agency, reports the paper.
The boy was reported missing about an hour later by his mother and grandmother. They reportedly came to the police station, and investigators say that's when they learned the father had allegedly left the children alone in his car.
Grusofski then came to the police station and admitted he had been drinking, reports the paper. When police told him he would be charged, the man allegedly became aggressive and tried to punch an officer. Police used a Taser to take him into custody.
He's reportedly expected to be charged with endangering the welfare of children, aggravated assault on a police officer and resisting arrest.
