CHICAGO (CBS 58) – Creators of a new lift are hoping to give people in wheelchairs more independence.
The Paralift was developed by Robotic Research. The lift is automated and can be controlled through an app.
The lift allows a passenger to get into a van and secured without someone else’s help.
Developers say this puts the power back into the user’s hands and eliminates the need for an extra person. Now, a driver could wait in the car while the passenger gets in.
“If I can have the power to move myself and secure myself without being a burden to anyone else or requiring assistance, that puts a lot of power and faith back into the passengers themselves,”
Robotic Research engineer Daven Bhatt said.
More information on the lift can be found on Robotic Research’s website.
