Carroll University lands $250,000 state grant to expand teacher training program

(CBS 58) -- Carroll University has been awarded a $250,000 grant through the Wisconsin Fast Forward Teacher Training and Recruitment Grant Program to help train teachers for high-need schools across the state, the university announced on Thursday, June 18.
The grant, administered by the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development, is part of a $1 million statewide investment into four organizations that will train 84 teachers over the next two years.
Through the grant, 20 teacher candidates will receive a path to getting a license through Carroll's Master of Arts in Teaching program starting fall 2026. Candidates will complete the 36-credit program in 16 months and earn licensure in both general and special education, targeting shortages in elementary and middle school education, special education and mathematics.
Candidates will also receive funding covering half of tuition costs, $400 for textbooks, a $2,100 stipend during student teaching and $250 toward applying for a Wisconsin teaching license.
Training will take place in partnership with the School District of Waukesha, West Allis-West Milwaukee School District, Greenfield School District and Wauwatosa School District.
