WAUKESHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A Waukesha County animal shelter said they can use your help finding one of their longtime resident's a forever home.

The Humane Animal Welfare Society in Waukesha (HAWS) said that 2-year-old mixed breed, Rocky, has been in their shelter since December of 2022.

They said the dog was found living in bad conditions by his previous owners. The shelter said he was tied up in the backyard of Waukesha County home.

The dog was found by a neighbor who surrendered him to HAWS.

"He is your average lovey, playful, wonderful boy," said Johanna Schmanski with HAWS Mobile Adoption Transportation Team.

Schmanski said Rocky has to live away from the kenneled shelters, because he suffers from anxiety.

"There's a lot of movement and activity there's different people coming in and out, so for some animals that can be more stressful," said Schmanski.

Enter retired accountant and volunteer with HAWS Michael Budish.

"We'll take him typically for a walk in the morning for thirty to forty-five minutes, immediately he wants to go outside and play," said Budish.

Budish and his wife took in Rocky January this year, they said he's ball of energy, and bundle of love.

"I'll sit on the couch and rather than coming up next to me he'll climb over me and then lay down next to us," said Budish.

And while Budish and his wife wish they could keep Rocky forever, they have a retirement to enjoy.

Schmanski said, the dog, fully vaccinated and even microchipped has called the shelter home long enough. Now, it's time for his new adventure.

"You're making commitment animals aren’t disposable they are parts of our family that we need to embrace as such," said Schmanski.
