MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The 16th Street bridge is to be immediately closed, according to Milwaukee's Department of Public Works (DPW), as an inspection conducted Thursday, Dec. 4, showed it may be in need of repair. 

Part of the northern part of the 16th St. viaduct over the Menomonee River was already closed, and due to bridge elements inspected Thursday being on the southern part of the viaduct, DPW says the entire bridge will be closed. 

The closure will be implemented at 16th St. and Pierce Street and at the bottom of the viaduct ramp. 

Pierce Street will be accessible to traffic. 

The closure is expected by morning rush hour Friday, Dec. 5.
