1 dead, 2 hurt including MPD officer after car fire near 19th and Hampton

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee police were involved in a vehicle pursuit that ended with one dead and two hurt, including a MPD officer Wednesday evening, Aug. 6.

Law enforcement attempted to make a traffic stop after observing a car driving recklessly and wanted for a felony near 19th and W. Hampton. The driver refused to stop and a police pursuit ensued.

The pursuit ended when the fleeing car struck a tree.

The driver and sole occupant of the fleeing vehicle, a 17-year-old, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the Milwaukee Fire Department (MFD), two others, including a MPD officer, were hurt and transported to a hospital.

MFD stated that the police officer was hurt while trying to pull someone out of the car. Sources tell us that the officer suffered from second and third-degree burns.

CBS 58 reporters observed the car, not on fire, up against a building with noticeable fire damage with dozens of police and fire vehicles on scene.

The fire is under investigation, and the extent of damage to the building sustained by the fire is unknown.
