MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) – A Watertown woman was sentenced to 9.5 years in prison and 5.5 years of extended supervision Friday morning.
Shaniece Davis pleaded guilty to running a red light, causing a crash and then fatally hitting a woman with her SUV in Milwaukee.
The incident occurred in April 2017 near 92nd St. and W. Capitol Dr. Police say Davis left the scene of the crash and then hit and killed a pedestrian. Police say Davis drove backward over the pedestrian, Carol Daniel, several times. Davis said she didn’t know anyone was underneath her wheels.
At the sentencing, Davis spoke, along with several of Daniel’s family members.
“I hope it haunts you until the day you die that you killed a person like Carol,” Daniel’s brother Francis said.
Davis cried during the sentencing and apologized to the family.
“I’m sorry to the victim’s family for what I’ve done that day,” she said. “I would never want to hurt anyone but I’ve failed to do so.”
The judge also ordered Davis to pay the Daniel’s family more than $11,000 in restitution.
