Weekend plans shift as snow hits Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A Kenosha couple celebrating their fifth wedding anniversary didn’t let Saturday’s snowstorm stop their weekend, even as the weather forced some of their plans to change.

Alexis Nicolas and Denis Ouspenski drove to Milwaukee planning a special weekend downtown. But the restaurant they wanted to visit closed, and their comedy show was canceled as snow and wind moved in.

Instead of heading home, the couple decided to shop inside 3rd Street Market Hall and nearby stores to make the most of their anniversary.

“We weren’t expecting the weather to be so volatile so quickly. It was so nice last week," said Alexis Nicolas. "You know you have to adapt to the weather, and we had to commit to our plans, so we did what we could and I think it turned out to be a pretty nice day.”

The couple said the weather was challenging, but they were determined to make their anniversary day special. Ouspenski added some perspective on how people react to early snowstorms:

“The first few snowstorms of the year always seem to scare people," said Ouspenski. "But once it’s like the fourth, fifth, everyone starts driving 75 again and everybody forgets how scared they were the first time.”

Despite canceled plans, Nicolas and Ouspenski said it was still a special day.
