MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A heroic story out of Milwaukee, where a county bus driver stepped up and helped a young girl in need.
Video from February shows a worried child boarding the bus near 27th and Hopkins just before midnight and asking the driver about any 24-hour shelters.
Instead of dropping her at a shelter, Yanitza Molina sprung into action and got the young passenger the help she needed. She contacted dispatch so a Milwaukee County Transit System (MCTS) route supervisor could come and take the girl to safety.
We spoke to the hero herself about why she chose to help that winter night.
"I see her, she makes my heart break in pieces," MCTS driver Yanitza Molina said. "How a little kid be in the street at that time? It's like I would love to be her mother and say to her look honey, if you are having a problem, talk to me, tell me what's going on. I would love to help you."
Molina told us she enjoys "everything" about her job with MCTS and has been a bus driver for several years.
