Warmest day of the year followed by a chance for strong storms
Strong storms will be possible Wednesday night but not before temperatures warm to, potentially, the warmest numbers of the year. A breeze out of the west Wednesday gusting above 20 mph at times will push temperatures through the 60s and 70s with widespread highs in the 80s. Mid to upper 80s look likely for most of southeast Wisconsin with a potential to make a run at 90 degrees. The record is 95 set in 1933 which looks to stay safe.
The warm day will provide lots of fuel for thunderstorms that form. There's only a 10-15% chance for showers or a storm to happen during the day Wednesday, with better rain chances after dark Wednesday night into Thursday morning. Some scattered showers and storms are possible throughout the day Thursday with best chances during the morning.
Any storms that do move through Wednesday night could be on the stronger side with some of our southern counties currently included in a Level 1 Marginal risk for severe storms. Gusty wind and small hail will be the main threats with any storms that develop. The better ingredients for severe weather will be in our southern counties near the IL border and south of I-94, but the better chances for rain will be along I-94 and in northern counties, so there is a bit of disconnect there.
With storms Wednesday night and continued scattered showers Thursday and Friday, rain totals will add up. But there is still a good chance for some decent dry time both Thursday and Friday especially Thursday afternoon and Friday morning. Rain totals by Saturday morning look to stay around a half inch in many areas with isolated locations seeing up to an inch for those that see storms.
