UWM adds emphasis on the public good inside new Lubar Entrepreneurship Center

(MILWAUKEE) – For many young students entering the workforce out of college finding a career is about more than just securing a steady paycheck, but also doing good with their life’s work. That’s why UW-Milwaukee is embracing social entrepreneurship as a part of their new offerings for students inside their brand new campus facility opened this month; the Lubar Entrepreneurship Center.

Enter the university’s first social-entrepreneur-in-residence Mark Fairbanks. Fairbanks, along with his wife Margaret are the owners of Islands of Brilliance, a Milwaukee nonprofit offering educational programs tailored to children and young adults on the autism spectrum. In this new role, Fairbanks advises UWM students on how to be social entrepreneurs and bring their own ideas to fruition.  

On CBS 58 Sunday Morning, Mike Strehlow put this new framework for community collaboration in the Sunday morning spotlight.
