On Wednesday the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner identified the 14-year-old as Sareyi Ahmed. The ME says he jumped off a pier into Lake Michigan but couldn't swim.
Friends that were with the boy said he gave them his phone and said to film him while he jumped. The friends saw him go in the water but never come back up. Two friends jumped in two help but were unable to pull him out. None of the kids had a phone on them and the 14-year-old's phone was licked so they ran toward Atwater Beach and told strangers to call 911.
The friends said they had never been swimming with him, but thought he could swim because of they he was just going to jump in.
There is video of the incident, but authorities have been unable to get into the 14-year-old's phone.
The official cause of death has not yet been released.
A family friend has set up a GoFundMe account to help Sareyi Ahmed's family. https://www.gofundme.com/sareyi-ahmeds-memorial-fund
