17-year-old killed, 16-year-old arrested after shooting at Racine's Lockwood Park
CBS 58 RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Racine police say a 17-year-old is dead following a fatal shooting at Lockwood Park on Sunday, October 4.
Police responded to the scene along Graceland Blvd. at around 1:13 a.m. for reports of two people shot.
Upon arrival, officers located the 17-year-old victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the back.
Crews took the victim to Ascension All Saints Hospital, where he died as a result of injuries.
Police found a second person, a 16-year-old teen, suffering from a gunshot wound to his torso.
He was also taken to Ascension, before later being transferred to Children's Hospital. That 16-year-old is considered a person of interest in the shooting and has been taken into custody. He remains hospitalized and is receiving medical treatment.
Police say preliminary information indicates that a large gathering was taking place at Lockwood Park when an altercation occurred. During that altercation, shots were fired, and both juveniles were injured.
The circumstances leading to the altercation and shooting remain under investigation.
