Tonight's your chance to seek out jobs with the new Bucks arena project

There will be a bucks "Jobs Townhall Session" tonight, May 9th at the Northwest YMCA at 9050. N. Swan Road in Milwaukee.

The Milwaukee Bucks and Alderwoman Chantia Lewis helped organize the event along with Workforce Development.

The session will begin at 5:00 p.m., and prospective attendees should RSVP. Click here.

Alderwoman Lewis says this "is a prime opportunity to learn more about how to access the growing jobs pipeline. With the current major uptick in development and construction activity we are seeing right now in the city, this is a prime moment of opportunity for starting a new career or learning a trade."

The session will include remarks by Alderwoman Lewis and Bucks Senior Vice-President Alex Lasry. Attendees will also be able to register for SkillSmart's online job portal to access opportunities in construction and other jobs, and WRTP/Big Step will also be on-site to schedule Residential Preference Program (RPP) appointments and to certify qualified individuals.

The Bucks are also providing incentives for high school and technical school students to enter the building trades, promising a payment to as many as 200 students for 130 hours of pre-apprenticeship training on the construction site.

The stipend are funding through the $375,000 the Bucks committed to workforce training in the arena development agreement with the city.

The YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee is hosting the event to bring attention to its efforts at creating a healthier, stronger and safer Milwaukee where families of all incomes and backgrounds truly thrive, by providing access points for vital community needs from health to reliable and safe before and after school care.
