WAUKESHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- An interim Waukesha County executive has been nominated following the passing of County Executive Paul Farrow.

Waukesha County Board Chair Jim Heinrich, who serves as the acting county executive, announced the nomination of Thomas Farley Wednesday.

Farley retired in 2016 after serving 31 years in Waukesha County, according to the County Board Office, with 25 years spent as the county's lead attorney.

“In selecting the interim County Executive, my primary focus is stability,” said Chairman Heinrich. “I am looking for a leader who brings a steady, experienced hand to our operations, is a dedicated steward of taxpayer dollars, and is committed to ensuring our ongoing initiatives continue to move forward smoothly until the people have their say in the special election.”

Farley currently serves as an alternate on the county's Ethics Board.

Pending approval by the county board, he will serve as interim Waukesha County executive until a countywide special election takes place on Dec. 15.

The appointment recommendation is set to be reviewed by the Executive Committee on July 20, followed by the full County Board July 28.
