The Hop hosting open house to showcase accessibility features

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) – The Hop will host a special “Hop-able” open house from 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, October 10, at the Burns Commons streetcar platform located along E. Ogden Ave. just west of N. Prospect Ave. The event will provide a unique opportunity for Milwaukee residents living with disabilities to get a sneak preview of The Hop and the accessibility features of the vehicles.

“The Hop is designed for people of all abilities to board and ride easily and comfortably,” City Engineer Jeff Polenske said. “As excitement continues to build for our launch of passenger service this fall, it’s important that the entire community, including those with disabilities, have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the platforms, vehicles, and how the system will operate.”

The Hop features ADA-compliant level boarding, priority seating areas, on-board video screens and audio announcements, and accessible stop-request buttons to accommodate passengers of all abilities. Service animals will be welcome on board The Hop as well.

During the event Knapp St. between Franklin St. and Prospect Ave., just south of the park, will be closed to through traffic to allow for loading and unloading of mobility devices.

The Hop will open for passenger service on November 2, kicking off a full slate of “Grand Hop-ening” weekend events designed to engage the entire Milwaukee community.
